How to stand

Ephesians 6:10-18
Stand up for truth, be counted;
stand, and be unafraid
of taunts, and persecutions:
no need to be dismayed;
for though it is not easy,
and cowards will not try,
– Christ’s strength is all-sufficient
temptations to defy.

Don’t try to stand for Jesus
with one foot in the world; –
you’ll stumble or you’ll crumble
when Satan’s darts are hurled.
Against the wiles of Satan
if you would like to stand,
then take and wear the armour
Christ has at his command.

Don’t slouch along the pathway,
or soon you’ll drift away:
for only those determined
will keep upon the Way.
Stand strengthened in the Saviour,
with righteousness and truth,
salvation and the gospel,
the Word of God and faith.

Romans 12:9-13
Insight into love divine
incites to copy love sublime –
incentive to be selfless, kind:
his Spirit touching will and mind.

Repelled by evil, shrink away
from malice, into greed don’t stray.
Attracted to the pure and good –
cling to such things, as Jesus would.

So serve with fervour and with zeal,
renewed, refreshed when sloth you feel.
Be patient, joyful, hope-ful, share,
and faithful in you work and prayer.

Biochemistry

Intricacy of living tissue!
Atoms of differing weights and activity,
linked to make molecules high in complexity,
ordered, and structured, and placed in the cell
where they’ll meet when they should, slow down or compel
different reactions, interactions on cue,
with multiple triggered effects when they’re due.

Like keys and their locks making contact,
when chemicals correctly impact,
their functional purpose is altered and changed,
as groupings of atoms attract, rearranged.
The chemical drawings, and intricate stages
of all that goes on would take pages and pages
to detail, explain, and we never could fully
describe the controls, and the programming truly,
the transport and switches within each small cell,
positioning within each minute organelle.

So that light can be ‘seen’,
or a scent can be smelt,
our dinner transformed,
and our blood pumped and warmed.

Computer and factory:
fragility sustained,
arrangements maintained:
precise, and particular,
awesome, spectacular,
satisfactory!!

“Sabbath Rest”

Gen.2 & Heb.1:3
God created – all complete:
finished, nothing to repeat.

Now mankind may likewise rest
from their labours, share the best
fellowship with God above:
sabbath given them in love.

Jesus saved – it’s all complete:
finished, nothing to repeat.

So, believers share his rest,
and appreciate the best
fellowship with God. They treasure
Sunday’s taste of heavenly pleasure!
