Motivations to pray

Not only in storm times, or when in great need; –
if God’s great salvation you’ve tasted indeed,
and know Christ, his sufferings and grace understand,
pray always, and praise him for all he has planned.

You cannot be serving unless first you pray,
and meet with your Master, learn more of his way.
The faults in your car should be traced: likewise pray
your soul’s great ‘Mechanic’ to search you each day!

So pray to your Master, submissively kneel:
turn to him away from the world’s vain appeal;
a child with your Father, like saints through all time; –
immense are the grace and the riches divine.
