Why?
Glorious Son in heavenly kingdom,
willing to become a human –
how? (a miracle of love) – and why?

A perfect person had to die
to pay the debt and penalty,
provide a pardon, amnesty
for foolish mutineers.

So, come for the pardon, amnesty
for contrite mutineers.

What love! of God to send his Son to die
– for who?
What love! of Christ – oh, Jesus draw men’s hearts
to you!

Spoken truth – delivered ‘Word’:
– its meaning clear, not vague, or blurred.
No longer any need to guess. –
We have life’s manual, no less!

And then he came himself, as man, –
God’s Word as human flesh we scan:
his teaching, actions pure,
his sacrifice secure,
his resurrection sure.

Oh, for calmness in the clamour
to call out to Christ for love:
lonely, leaning, comfort gleaning
in the shove of grabbing greed . . . – surviving
as he feeds my soul  – reviving.

God in a stable –
and holding the sky:
truth, not a fable, –
to taste not deny!

God in a stable –
our Prince and our Priest:
spreading a table, –
eternity’s feast!

A pinpointed time,
appointment divine,
historical era;
a famous, poor manger,
unwelcoming shelter,
to hold the Creator.

Wars will end
Look! who’s come!
Creator King,
born the One
mercy to bring.

Men demand divine protection,
his intervention,
but no submission
to his authority,
his laws and purity.

He will bring end
to want and war,
when he returns,
– but now, before
that Day, become
his friend.
